Snead’s Memorial Methodist Church Independent, (formerly Snead’s Memorial United Methodist Church), was founded in 1881 under the leadership of Rev. R.J. Waters.  On Nov. 8, 1882, the Church Trustees purchased this present site of land to build our Church from Margaret E. Smith, William J. Fosque, and Susan Fosque.  In 1885, the Church was named after the Rev. George F. Snead who was then the pastor.  The Church is also known as Red Hill. 

In the early part of the twentieth century, Snead's found itself allied with the churches in Exmore and Keller. After John Wesley Church in Exmore closed in 1933, Snead’s and Mt. Hope in Keller continued together as a circuit.  Snead’s suffered heavily during the Depression.  On May 2, 1936, Snead’s Church went to public auction. God works in mysterious ways with wonders to be performed.  On Oct. 16, 1945, The Board of Home Missions and Church Extensions at The Methodist Episcopal Church of Pennsylvania conveyed Snead’s Deed to our Trustees. 

In the more prosperous 1940’s the new Exmore Church, Spence Memorial again joined the circuit.  In 1967 when Mt. Hope in Keller was officially closed, the congregation merged with Snead’s.  The present Church building is the second and was erected in 1919. 

The Church founders and dedicated members have worked diligently in the vineyard for the Master.  As a result of our Christian stewardship, we have witnessed membership growth, God’s Love and Mercy, as well as the beautification and expansion of our Church. 

The progress of any organization is reflected in its leadership.  We thank God for our current pastor, Rev. James S. Nock, and all other ministers, in Christ, that have graced our pulpit. Rev. George Harris was Snead’s pastor for 24 years.  

In 1998 the church established a scholarship fund to aid our youth to strive for a higher education. We know an idle mind is Satan’s workshop.

In December 2023, Snead’s Memorial disaffiliated from the United Methodist and became Snead’s Memorial Methodist Church Independent.
